BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 Getting OS 6 Early January
A tweet from Telus has indicated that they plan on releasing the BlackBerry 6 OS for the Curve 3G 9300 in early January, though nothing is locked down for the Bold 9700. Though the tweet only confirms anything for Telus, it does give hope to other BlackBerry Curve 9300 owners elsewhere in the world.
BlackBerry 6 will offer a variety of UI improvements, universal search for local and web content, as well as a new WebKit browser to make your mobile surfing a little more enjoyable. As for the phone, the Curve 3G is an entry-level BlackBerry with all of the basic stuff you’d expect: 2 megapixel camera without flash, QVGA display, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G.
The Curve 3G 9300 has been poised for a BlackBerry 6 upgrade since launch, but even if RIM has the software ready, it has to go through extensive carrier testing. OS 6 is gradually finding its way onto older devices, though; not long ago, Sprint’s Bold 9650 and Curve 9330 both got an upgrade. I suspect that on the GSM side of things, it won’t be long before we see the Bold 9700, Pearl 9100, and Curve 9300 catch up.
