BlackBerry Style 9670 Launches on Bell
Not too far behind Telus, Bell has launched RIM’s second flip BlackBerry, the Style 9670. It’s going for $49.99 on a three-year contract, which is not only cheaper than the comparable BlackBerry Torch and Bold 9780, but also beats the Telus Style by thirty bucks. They’re also selling their GPS navigation service for $50 for the lifetime of the device – a nice and reasonable change from the old subscription model, considering how good Google Maps for Mobile is, and the prevalence of free turn-by-turn navigation on Android handsets.
The Blackberry Style 9670 runs OS 6, complete with WebKit browser, universal search, social feeds app. As for specs, it’s got a 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, HVGA display, 624 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G via EV-DO 1X. There’s also an external display that when closed, provides at-a-glance notifictions of e-mails, texts, phone calls, and other events.
Personally, I found the Style a little bulky feeling, and there are more than a few who don’t like the form factor, but it does have a much larger keyboard than its more traditional BlackBerry bretheren, and the external display offers some handy functions for when you can’t be bothered to flip the thing open.
